The Little Black Dress

That little black dress
that's hanging there
is perfect for so many things;
a wedding, a party, a dinner;
wearing it, you're always a winner.

It fits every occasion,
be it big or small.
You can even wear it
on a shopping trip
to the Mall.

It will earn back the money
you paid for it in many ways;
throw a sweater over it
and you're wearing something new.
Wear it with pumps or heels,
anything will do.

Every woman should have at least one
little black dress to call her own.
So take out the money
and bring it on home.

Turn Your Radio On

One of my favorite TV shows of all time is the Waltons. And I always thought it was funny, but very charming, how they enjoyed their entertainment through shows on the radio; no TV, just a voice coming out of a box on the shelf. They loved it because that's all they had. But it was family time, something sorely lacking in today's world with the hustle and bustle of juggling work schedules and time. We need more family time and seeing old radios and thinking of old radio shows just reminds me of those simpler times when families meant something and people sincerely cared about one another.

Cheaters

Prompt #712: those who cheat

There are many kinds of cheaters. There are ones who cheat on their spouses. There are ones who cheat on their taxes. There are others who cheat by lying. And there are still others who cheat on tests. You also have people who cheat the retail industry by trying to pass coupons that are expired, for the wrong item, etc. I think most of us cheat at one time or another without even realizing we're doing it. We may even be surprised when we find out we're doing it.
Some of us cheat life every day by taking dangerous risks.
I think it's a normal action that's not necessarily done in a mean-spirited way most of the time.
The ones who cheat deliberately and habitually are the ones who deserve little or no respect.

Adored

http://easystreetprompts.blogspot.com/2009/10/prompt-703-adored.html

I've often wondered what it would be like to be adored by millions. I think it would have its pros and cons. On the good side, there's the feeling loved and wanted aspect. But a famous celebrity can still be very lonely if they don't have a personal love in his/her life. On the bad side, there's no privacy. There's no going out to dinner at a public restaurant, no going shopping at the local mall, no going bowling with the family.
I've always said that a famous person is a person first, a celebrity second. And there are too many people who seem to forget that.

Prompt #699: Resigned

Her eldest son was leaving for Marine boot camp and while she had promised him and herself that she would be brave, the tears had a mind of their own. For she knew that the road would be a long and dangerous one after Boot Camp was complete. She felt so alone even though she had her husband and her other two sons beside her. It was a cold winter day that felt even colder as she watched her son's airplane get farther and farther away. She wanted to feel hope but she felt only dread; dread for a war that wasn't going away.
