Priorities

This morning the lead news story was Tiger Woods and his press conference. And while his press conference was going on, it was broadcast on every television station and the radio stations as well. In the meantime, there's breaking news of a man flying a plane into a building in Texas that housed the IRS.
Why has it become commonplace and normal for a story of a sports figure who cheated on his wife to take precedence over a tragedy such as this one?
I've heard it said numerous times how Americans are obsessed with celebrities and their lifestyles but it still boggles my mind when a celebrity's private life is the top news story over an irate citizen deciding to take out his rage on innocent victims. I do applaud Tiger Woods for asking the media to leave his wife and children alone, speaking out on how his children are being endangered by having the school they attend made public.
The media's response? Magazines are offering millions of dollars for a picture of Tiger and his wife together. So this begs the question: Is the paparazzi to blame? Or the magazines?
Only in America.
